Cola Slushy Floats with Vanilla Soft Serve: Easy Recipe

Cola Slushy Floats with Vanilla Soft Serve: Easy Recipe

The Frozen Float Counter · Recipe

Icy cola below.
Creamy vanilla above.

An old-school cola float with a frozen twist. This cola slushy float recipe brings

together an icy cola base and a soft swirl of vanilla, using two separately

prepared products from the Fun Foods Direct Cola Float Bundle.

Think of a classic cola ice cream float, but replace the liquid soft drink with a spoonable cola slushy. The finished dessert has a cold, icy base beneath a creamy vanilla topping. It is a simple frozen dessert for home entertaining, cafés and dessert counters.

The key is to prepare the cola slushy and vanilla soft serve separately, following their individual product directions. Only combine them in the serving glass, immediately before serving.

Ingredients and serving quantities

This single-glass build uses already-prepared frozen components. The suggested portions below provide a starting point for consistent home or café service.

For one cola slushy float

Ingredient Suggested portion
Finished cola slushy 250 mL
Finished vanilla soft serve 60 mL portion

Use a glass of approximately 400 mL capacity as a starting point, allowing space above the slushy for the vanilla topping. These are suggested serving portions, not manufacturer-specified or physically tested float measurements; confirm them with your own glass and equipment before standardising.

Prepare the components in separate batches

Cola slushy batch example
  • 200 mL Cola Slushy Syrup
  • 800 mL cold drinking water

Makes 1 L of liquid slushy mixture before freezing. Prepare only a batch size permitted by your equipment.

Whip N Dream full-bag mix
  • 1.5 kg Whip N Dream Classic Vanilla powder
  • 3.5 L cold water

Mix thoroughly, rest for 10 minutes and process in compatible equipment. Follow your current pack label if it differs.

Equipment: suitable slushy preparation equipment, separate compatible soft serve equipment, a clean mixing container, measuring jug, a tall serving glass, a long dessert spoon and a wide drinking straw.

The full product batches make more than one glass. Finished yield and machine operating times depend on the equipment and portion sizes.

The serving sequence

How to make a cola slushy float

Prepare both frozen components before assembling any glasses. Keep the final assembly short so the icy cola and creamy vanilla remain distinct.

  1. Prepare the cola base

Measure one part Cola Slushy Syrup and four parts cold water. Stir to combine, then transfer the mixture to a suitable slushy machine without exceeding its fill limits. Freeze according to the machine instructions until the cola reaches a consistent, spoonable slushy texture.

  2. Prepare the vanilla separately

For a standard 1.5 kg bag of Whip N Dream Classic Vanilla, measure 3.5 L cold water into a clean container. Add the powder and mix thoroughly until smooth. Rest for 10 minutes, then transfer to compatible frozen dessert equipment and process according to the machine instructions.

  3. Fill the glass with cola slushy first

Place a clean, preferably chilled glass on the serving counter. Add a suggested 250 mL portion of finished cola slushy, keeping the level below the rim so the vanilla topping has room. Avoid packing the slushy down firmly.

  4. Add the vanilla crown

Dispense one small, consistent portion of prepared vanilla soft serve onto the cola slushy. A 60 mL portion is the suggested starting measure. Keep the swirl centred, and do not stir it into the cola.

  5. Add a spoon and straw, then serve

Place a long dessert spoon and a wide straw alongside the float. Serve immediately while the vanilla holds its shape and the cola remains icy.

THE COUNTER RULE

Cola first. Vanilla last. Serve straight away.

Adding the soft serve only after the slushy is in the glass is the recommended bundle serving order. It helps preserve the visual contrast between the dark cola base and pale vanilla topping without mixing the two machine recipes.

Tips for a better slushy ice cream float

Leave room at the top

Do not fill the glass with cola slushy to the rim. The soft serve needs enough space to sit above the slushy without overflowing.

Use a consistent portion

For café service, select a standard glass, measure the slushy portion and calibrate the amount of soft serve dispensed for each float.

Keep both textures ready

Finish freezing both products before assembling. Do not prepare completed floats ahead of the serving time.

Keep the cola recipe accurate

Use the required syrup-to-water ratio. Do not add extra water to a machine batch simply to increase the number of serves.

Troubleshooting your float

What is happening? What to check
Cola is too runny Check the 1:4 dilution, batch temperature and machine freezing cycle.
Slushy is overly icy Check that excessive water has not been added and review the machine texture setting.
Vanilla loses its shape Check the soft serve equipment and preparation instructions. Dispense only when ready to serve.
Float overflows Use a larger glass or reduce the cola fill level to provide more headroom.

Serving ideas and simple variations

Classic café float: Keep it to the two prepared components, with no extra toppings. The dark cola and pale vanilla create the presentation.

Dessert-style finish: Add an optional drizzle of chocolate sauce to the finished float. Sauces and toppings are separate purchases and should only be added at service.

Party float station: Prepare cola slushy and vanilla soft serve in their respective equipment, then assemble each float as guests are ready to receive it. Keep cups, spoons and straws available at the serving counter.

Storage and make-ahead guidance

Prepare the two components according to their individual product labels and machine instructions. Follow the manufacturer's directions for holding, cleaning, storage and disposal of any remaining prepared mixture.

Do not hold fully assembled floats for later service. Once combined, the soft serve and slushy begin to lose their distinct textures. Make each glass immediately before it is served.

Check the current packaging for ingredients, allergens, storage conditions and best-before information, particularly when preparing drinks for customers.

Questions from the counter

Cola slushy float FAQs

Can I put vanilla soft serve in the cola slushy tank?

No. Prepare the cola syrup in suitable slushy equipment and the vanilla mix in compatible frozen dessert equipment. Combine only the finished products in the serving glass.

Can I make the cola slushy without a slushy machine?

The cola concentrate can also be blended with water and ice in a suitable blender. Follow the syrup dilution instructions first, and expect a different texture from a machine-made slushy. The vanilla component still requires suitable preparation and freezing equipment.

Is a cola slushy float fizzy like a traditional cola spider?

Not necessarily. This recipe uses cola-flavoured slushy concentrate diluted with still water, rather than carbonated cola soft drink. The emphasis is on an icy cola texture with creamy soft serve on top.

How much vanilla soft serve should I add?

A small portion is a practical starting point. This recipe suggests approximately 60 mL over 250 mL of finished cola slushy. Confirm the portion and glass capacity in a real serving trial, then use the same portion method for consistent results.

Does the cola float bundle include the machines and cups?

No. The bundle contains the vanilla soft serve mix and cola slushy syrup. Compatible machines, water, serving cups, straws and optional toppings are separate.

Can cafés prepare several floats in advance?

Prepare the frozen components separately using suitable equipment and approved holding procedures. Assemble the finished floats to order rather than storing them together.
